Ferrari is launching an SUV in 2022 and here are the technical details

Ferrari’s upcoming sporty SUV is expected to hit the market in 2022 and we are getting more details on the Lamborghini-Urus-rival with the iconic Italian automaker stepping up the development work. In an interview with AutoCar, Ferrari’s chief technical officer Michael Leiters revealed some interesting information on the high-riding Ferrari being developed under the codename Purosangue (Italian for thoroughbred).

Ferrari, which doesn’t want you to call the upcoming model an SUV, promises that the Purosangue is going be completely different than other performance or ultra-luxury SUV on the market like the Aston Martin DBX, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Internally known as 175, the Ferrari Purosangue will ride on Ferrari’s next-generation front-engine platform which is currently under development.

In fact, AutoCar says currently developing two bespoke architectures for its future model giving two distinct model lines. One will be for all its mid-engine supercars, while the other architecture will be for front-mid-engine GT-style cars, including the Purosangue.

“I’m convinced on this car and the technical concept,” Ferrari’s chief technical officer Michael Leiters told AutoCar in the interview. “I think we’ve found a concept and a package which is on one side a real SUV and will convince SUV customers to buy it, but on the other side there’s a huge differentiation of concept to existing SUVs.”

AutoCar believes that both the architectures will be highly flexible and will be able to accommodate different engines, including hybrid powertrains, along with offering different cabin configurations, wheelbase lengths, and different body styles. From all these parameters, the Ferrari Purosangue will adopt a four-seater cabin configuration with a length of around five meters, all-wheel drive and high ground clearance with height-adjustable suspension. Ferrari is also expected to offer several engine options on the Purosangue, including a range-topping V12 option and a Plug-in hybrid variant thanks to the ever-tightening emission norms.

Are you just as excited about the Ferrari SUV as we are? After all, it will be one of the most radical models in Ferrari’s illustrious 72-year history.
