Local and international models and designers descended on the majestic Marriott Hotel Crystal Towers in Century City Cape Town. In the first of a new trend in fashion collaboration. Big names like Michael Lombard from New York Fashion week and local designers like Jacques LeGrange and Johanna from Beach Cult joined forces to showcase their collections for this season.
The Red Carpet Creative Production in collaboration with Runway Prestige New York drew together the rich fashion cultures of the Big Apple and the Mother City under one roof.
The event hosted by Prestige Runway, Castle Light and other sponsors was nothing short of a glamorous affair. The collections ranged from the avant-garde Game of Thrones meets Mad Max Micheal Lombard 2019 collection to the contrasting summer prints of Beach Cult kept the audience engaged in what will be considered the fashion event of the year.
New York Fashion week veteran Jacques LeGrange presented a very elegant all white collection. In contrast to his previous work, still carried a strong African vibe.
The local designer that had the crowd completely in awe, was without a doubt Johanna from Beach Cult with her swimwear in unique prints created by local activists and artists…. notably a portion of this collections profits will be going to the African Wildlife Society.
For menswear, we were treated to the bespoke suites tailored by Willem of Zed Menswear. This is a brand to watch going forward with innovation and personalization being in the forefront of his design process.
To conclude this was a fashion event planned and executed to perfection by the events team. We hope that this will be the start of many more international collaborations helping put African fashion in the mix with international fashion. The market both locally and in Europe is proving very receptive to South African design.
