ONE OF THE LAST GREAT CHAMPAGNES – TAITTINGER

Taittinger is one of the last Great Champagne Houses to remain independent. It is owned and actively managed by the family, whose name features on the label. The family are guardians of Taittinger’s style, quality and integrity. The hallmark of their fine Champagnes is the high proportion of Chardonnay used in their winemaking.

While its roots goes back to 1240, the name Champagne Taittinger dates back to 1734 and is the third oldest Champagne House that is still trading. The Head office is situated in Reims above chalk cellars where >25M bottles lay maturing. These cellars go back to 4th century Gallo Roman times, and later were enlarged by monks in 13th century. More than 150 000 visitors are welcomed to the cellars each year.

Champagne Taittinger holds strong values and has a reputation built on high standards of quality, consistency and passion for their brands. The company would rather produce fewer bottles to ensure the excellence of their products all of which have been enormously successful with international awards. Approx two thirds of their production volumes are exported and can be found in more than 150 countries.

Champagne Taittinger own 712 acres of vineyards across 15 villages in some of the best appellations, such as the Cote de Blanc, Montagne de Reims and Valley de Marne. If you were to walk the Taittinger vineyards, it would stretch 2,800 km in length. Taittinger produce 50% of the grapes juice needed for their annual production, the balance sourced from carefully selected growers under long term contracts.

40% of the Taittinger vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, compared to 27% in champagne 45% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. The Taittinger vineyards reflect house style for light and accessible wines and the hallmark of their fine Champagnes is the high proportion of Chardonnay used in their winemaking which produces wines of great elegance and finesse.
Additionally, with its own vineyard of 288 ha, (one of the largest in Champagne), Taittinger can guarantee a flawless signature, and wines recognized worldwide for their consistent quality.
